MAIN GYM

Lions Sports: Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball

The Main Gym features 35-foot ceilings and a sprung hardwood floor. With a large Lions logo in the centre of the floor and banners lining the walls to show York's success at provincial and national competitions in many different sports, the Main Gym is an inspiring place to be for all Lions student-athletes.

For interuniversity games, bleachers with a capacity of 950 people are available for all fans.

When not in use by the interuniversity teams, it is also used for intramural sports and academic practicum classes and has a dividing curtain that allows for the running of multiple activities or games.

POOL

Lions Sports: Swimming, Water Polo

The Tait McKenzie Centre pool is 25 metres in length and features seven lanes for swim meets.

Bleachers with capacity for 200 fans can be found in the gallery above the pool.

The pool is in high demand and is also used for academic practicum classes in swimming, lifesaving and scuba diving and for recreational swimming.

STUDENT FIELD HOUSE

Lions Sports: Special Events

The Student Field House is designed for basketball, volleyball, badminton and indoor soccer and is used by the Lions interuniversity teams for special events such as the annual Excalibur Volleyball Classic. It is also a practice gym for many of the teams.

Each half of the double gym replicates the dimensions of the Main Gym's court and is split in half by a dividing curtain.

In addition to a practice facility and occasional competition venue, the Student Field House is used primarily for casual recreation and intramural sport.

VARSITY STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING CENTRE

The varsity strength and conditioning centre is for exclusive use by all Lions student-athletes. Training here allows student-athletes to work in a high-performance environment where all equipment and programming is selected with the needs of the high-performance athlete in mind.

Lions student-athletes work closely with York University’s strength and conditioning specialist Adam Douglas, who creates programs based on the needs of the athlete and coaches on high-performance lifts and movements. Team and individual workouts are available and education on all aspects of strength and conditioning is provided, including proper warm-ups and cool-downs, plyometrics, power, energy systems development, strength and flexibility.

Located on the bottom floor of the Tait McKenzie Centre, the centre features 1500 square feet of space, including six platforms, Keiser performance equipment and bumper plates.
