York University Sport Council is pleased to introduce Lions for Lions!

What is Lions for Lions?

Lions for Lions is a program meant to create support for all of York University's varsity teams! By encouraging athletes to support each other, Lions for Lions will develop pride and spirit at York.

How does it accomplish this?

All teams at York University will be awarded using points for participating in different Lions for Lions activities and for their achievements each season. These activities include attending community outreach events and York Lions home games, while achievements can be athletic or academic. Every team gets to choose one home game to be a Lions for Lions event, and have all our other athletes come out to support them! Teams may request additional support.

How do points get awarded?

Depending on the percentage of athletes a team has at a Lions for Lions event, they will gain points that are tallied up every other week. For instance, if your team gets 20% of its athletes to come out to a community outreach event, you will gain 200 points. But, if 100% of your team shows up, you earn 1000 points! Also, the more your team accomplishes during the year both athletically and academically, the more points you will earn! The team with the highest GPA, for example, wins 300 points. If your team wins Gold at OUAs, you are rewarded with 250 points!

What do these points mean?

At the end of the year the team with the highest point totals will receive the Roar Cup trophy at our annual Sports Banquet, as well as winning an extra $1000 for the team! That could mean new track suits, or entry to another tournament the next year! The second and third place teams also will be winners each year.

How do I get my team involved?

Stay tuned to the Sport Council for information on dates of events. If your team completes any events, the team representative will let us know. Also, you can check out the point standings in Tait McKenzie or online at the yorkulions.com site. Get your team involved, and help develop York's spirit and pride while supporting all of your fellow athletes!
