FINANCIAL SUPPORT

York University is committed to helping students with demonstrated financial need meet the direct education costs associated with university studies (tuition, books and mandatory course fees). Financial assistance can be provided from a variety of sources including OSAP, scholarships, bursaries, private awards and employment (e.g. the Work/Study program). Scholarships, awards and bursaries are available through enquiry and application to the Office of Student Financial Services (http://sfs.yorku.ca/), located in the West Office Building. All student-athletes MUST fill out a Student Financial Profile Form to be eligible for consideration for any and all financial awards.

Student-athletes should be aware that there are bursary funds available from the University to assist those with financial need. Applications for York University Undergraduate Bursaries are available online beginning in September from the website of the Office of Student Financial Services at http://sfs.yorku.ca/. Preference will be given to those who apply by the fall deadline. Bursaries will be awarded in two installments (early December and mid-March).

The application deadline for Scholarships and Awards for Continuing Students is annually in early October. Annual deadline dates are available on the OSFS website.

ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Sport & Recreation understands the importance of providing Athletic Financial Awards (AFAs) to entering student-athletes and has developed a number of awards, valued at $20,000 each (up to $4,000 per year for up to five years). Entering AFAs are awarded to student-athletes that have achieved an 80 per cent entering average and are elite student-athletes. To continue the award student-athletes must achieve a 6.0 grade point average (equivalent to a B or 70 per cent).

In 2009-10, over $500,000 was distributed to more than 210 student-athletes in various athletic specific awards, bursaries and scholarships.

If you are applying for any type of award, scholarship or bursary, please ensure that you complete the application form IN FULL. Remember that you do not have to be OSAP-eligible to have a demonstrated financial need, that some student-athletes face additional costs as a result of being involved in interuniversity sport and/or may have greater difficulty in working part-time because of their commitment to training, practice, competition and travel.

Note: Students applying for (or already applied for) any School of Kinesiology and Health Science award, bursary or scholarship, please also complete the co-curricular form, found HERE.
