MASCOTS

The York Lions are represented by one male and one female lion. These two lions have been the mascots for all interuniversity teams since 2004, when York University student-athletes became known as the Lions.

CHEERLEADING

The York University Cheerleading Team consists of student-athletes who are committed to enhancing school spirit and raising community awareness. Although the team primarily cheers at York Lions basketball and football games, the squad's presence is also felt at other interuniversity games and community events.

The program also has a competitive season where the student-athletes compete at events in Canada and the United States. The cheerleading teams also participate in various charity and corporate events within, and outside of, the York community. The prime focus of the team is supporting and promoting York University by encouraging involvement in student life at York.

DANCE TEAM

The York Lions Dance Team is a core squad of York University students whose main goal is to promote and encourage spirit at York through dance. The dance team is comprised of two parts, the performance team and the competition team.

The performance team works closely with Sport & Recreation York to promote the York Lions and can be seen at interuniversity football, basketball, volleyball and hockey games throughout the season. The performance dancers also make appearances around campus to promote school spirit.

The competition team consists of members of the dance team who audition and train at an advanced technical level to represent York University at interuniversity competition.
