FERNANDES NAMED OUA ALL-STAR

York University Lions field hockey player Adriana Fernandes was named an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) all-star on Tuesday (Oct. 25).

The fourth-year defender from Mississauga, Ont., earned all-star honours for the first time this season after another stellar season on the pitch. She scored one goal this season while also serving as the team captain, and was a tremendous leader for a young team.

“Adriana carried our young team through a tough year of learning on the field,” said head coach Deborah Fullerton. “She was a terrific captain and was also the striker on all corners. Adriana has incredible fitness and was able to help the York field hockey team get progressively better with each game played this season.”

The Lions finished their regular season this past Saturday and ended the year in sixth place in the OUA standings, missing out on the playoffs by one spot.
