LIONS EARN ONE POINT IN SEASON'S FINAL WEEKEND

The York University Lions women's field hockey team met with excitement and disappointment in a 1-1 tie against the Queen' Gaels and a 2-0 loss to the Western Mustangs on the final weekend of the regular season.

In the match against the Gaels, the Lions fought hard in a fairly even match against the seventh-place Gaels.

The Lions opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a goal by Adriana Fernandes of Mississauga, Ont. The lead was short lived, however, as the Gaels' Lindsey Logan tied the game seven minutes later with a goal of her own, putting the score at 1-1.

Unfortunately for the Lions, the tie was not enough to get them into the playoffs as they needed a win to stay in the hunt. The squad finished off its season in the afternoon with the loss to the Mustangs. In that contest, Anne Wozney scored both Western goals, in the 21st and 66th minutes, to give them the win.

The Lions ended the season with a 1-9-2 record and in sixth place in the OUA standings. The top five teams have advanced to the playoffs and will compete in the OUA championships next weekend.
