Deborah Fullerton continues to lead a strong York field hockey program and has been the head coach for nine seasons.

Fullerton’s team has won two OUA medals in her tenure at York and narrowly missed out on a medal in 2009 with a fourth-place finish at the OUA championships. In 2004-05 she coached the indoor hockey team to its first OUA championship in six years.

Prior to being named head coach, Fullerton spent two seasons serving as an assistant to Dale Peltola. She also has several years of coaching experience at the high school and provincial team levels. In 2005 she led the Ontario senior women’s team to a gold medal at the national indoor championship and a bronze medal at the national outdoor championship.

Fullerton began playing field hockey during her final year of high school, scoring 50 goals in just 20 games. The following winter she was chosen to play for the Canadian junior team by former Olympic and York University coach Marina van der Merwe.

She played in the CIS at the University of New Brunswick, where she earned all-Canadian honours during her rookie season. She was then selected to play for the Canadian national team until sustaining a career-ending knee injury in 1991. Fullerton then set her focus on a professional golf career, turning pro in 1995.
