DEVELOPMENT CAMP AND HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT

The dates for two annual events hosted by the York University Lions men’s volleyball team, the athlete development camp and the annual high school tournament, have been announced for 2011.

The athlete development camp will be held from August 8-12, 9am to 4pm each day, and the 36th annual York University Lions High School Volleyball Classic will take place on Saturday, September 24.

The athlete development camp is for males and females aged 11-17. All participants will be guided through a comprehensive and systematic developmental program in both basic and advanced skills according to Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles. A solid foundation will be developed in the fundamentals of passing, digging, attacking and blocking while engaging in team play situations. The cost of the camp is $250 prior to July 1 and $275 after that date.

The high school tournament is open to all high school boys’ teams in the province of Ontario. Pool play will be followed by a playoff to determine the winner, and all matches will feature a best-of-three games format. Rules and scoring format will be the ones adopted by OFSAA volleyball.

For more information on the events contact Wally Dyba, head coach of the York Lions men’s volleyball team, at 416-736-2100 ext. 77294 or email wdyba@yorku.ca.
