MEDAL HAUL REACHES 22 AT PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Members of the York University Lions track and field team combined to win 22 medals at the recent Athletics Ontario junior/senior championships last weekend (Aug. 14-15) in Sudbury.
Seven Lions student-athletes competing at the meet came home with multiple medals. Climbing on the podium three times each were third-year thrower Cynthia Appiah (Etobicoke, Ont.) and incoming recruit Justine Vidal (South River, Ont.), who each picked up a silver and two bronze medals. Appiah finished second in the senior shot and third in the discus and hammer, while Vidal claimed the same medals in the junior category.
Another rookie, Katie Klodnicki (Grimsby, Ont.) was crowned champion in two events as she won gold in the junior discus and hammer throw events.
Throwers Kristin Obrochta (Mississauga, Ont.) and Elizabeth Petrov (Richmond Hill, Ont.) each won a gold and silver medal. Obrochta won the gold in the senior hammer throw and Petrov emerged victorious in the senior shot put.
