Colin Inglis has made a major impact on the cross country and track and field programs in his 13 years as a head coach at York University. Now in his 14th season, he is continuing to push both the cross country and track and field teams to new heights.

Since his arrival in 1999, Inglis has produced 113 OUA all-stars and 40 all-Canadians in cross country and track and field, and student-athletes on his teams have broken several meet, school and national records. Inglis is a two-time recipient of the Bob Vigars Award as OUA men’s track and field coach of the year (2007, 2009) and received the Sue Wise Award as OUA women’s track and field coach of the year in 2003.

A Level 3 NCCP coach in the sprints, hurdles and jumps, Inglis is working toward his Level 4 certification. Before coming to York, Inglis served as an associate head coach at the University of Windsor, where he helped lead the Lancers to three OUA track and field titles and two CIS women’s track and field championships in 1996 and 1999.

Inglis also served as Power Speed Coach for Canada at the 1999 Pan-American Junior Championships in Florida, the 2000 under-21 NACAC in Mexico, the 2001 Francophone Games in Ottawa and the 2002 under-21 NACAC in Texas.

As an athlete, Inglis was a three-time all-Canadian, 1992 MVP of the York track and field team and a New Brunswick team representative at the 1989 and 1994 Francophone Games. Inglis graduated from York University with a bachelor of science in Kinesiology & Health Science in 1992 and continued his education at the University of Maine, receiving a bachelor of education in 1994.

In addition to his coaching duties, Inglis serves as a practicum teacher in York’s School of Kinesiology & Health Science.

Colleen Dotson joined the York track and field program for the 2009-10 season and specializes in the horizontal jumps and training the pentathletes.

She was recently named to the Team Ontario coaching staff for the 2013 Canada Summer Games and will lead the jumps team at the Games to be held in Sherbrooke, Que., in August 2013.

She came to York with significant experience in the sport as a coach, athlete and meet director. Before joining the Lions coaching staff, she was an assistant track and field coach at the University of Toronto with junior development athletes, where it was her responsibility to develop and apply training programs and supervise and conduct practice.

She was also an assistant meet director for the Festival of Excellence, a world-class track meet hosted by U of T in June that featured several international athletes, including three-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt.

While a student at Kent State University, where she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology, Dotson participated as an athlete from 2001-05. In those years she was a four-time Mid-American conference champion and a three-time NCAA qualifier in the triple jump. She also attended the University of Central Missouri, where she completed her graduate assistantship as an assistant coach and earned a master’s degree in sociology.

Richard Parkinson is now in his fifth year as an assistant coach with the York Lions track and field team, specializing in the throwing events.

He was recently named the throws coach for the 2012 North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) under-23 championships in Guanajuato, Mexico.

Parkinson, who is also a marketing professional with a global food manufacturer, fuelled his passion for track and field by coaching athletes at al levels and competing in open and masters competitions. His coaching career has included stints as a volunteer coach at the University of Buffalo, Clemson University and North Central College. He also has national team experience as both an athlete and a coach. An NCCP level three coach in the throwing events, Parkinson has coached several outstanding athletes, including five Canadian national junior champions, one NCAA champion and numerous OFSAA and OTFA champions.

As a thrower, he holds national masters records in a couple of ages groups in the weight pentathlon and weight throw. Parkinson, who graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor of arts degree in advertising and marketing, is the Canadian masters champion in the javelin and shot put. As an international masters competitor, he placed third at the US Masters Championship on 2006 and was ranked 30th in the world in the javelin in 2006 and was ranked 18th in the world in 2010.

Paul Roberts

Paul Roberts

Title: Assistant Coach (Distance)

Paul Roberts joined York as a distance coach for the 2010 season and has already made great strides with the Lions distance runners.

He brings to York significant experience as a former varsity athlete. Roberts ran for Ohio State University and was the top Canadian at the 1977 NCAA cross country championships, finishing in 42nd place. He received all-American honours in 1978 for indoor track, where he ran the distance medley.

He also has an impressive junior resume that includes multiple top finishes at provincial and national meets. In 1976 he won the Ontario and Canadian junior 5km championships, and also won the 10km in a time of 29:44, which still stands as the Ontario junior record. He also won back-to-back gold medals in the 5km race at the Ontario Summer Games and a gold and bronze medal in consecutive 10km races at the same event.

In 1975 he was crowned the junior cross country Ontario Track and Field Association champion. Roberts continues to run 40-50 miles a week and enters a few races per year.

Milt Ottey

Milt Ottey, now in his fifth year with the York University track and field team, brings a wealth of national and international experience to the Lions program.

A former Canadian record holder in the high jump at 2.33m who was ranked the No. 1 high jumper in the world in 1982, Ottey has competed in several international events. He won back-to-back gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in 1982 and 1986 and a bronze medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. He also finished in sixth place at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

He has previously coached at UTEP, Kent State and the University of New Mexico. In addition to his work with the Lions, Ottey is currently the development manager for the very popular UK-based kids core skills development program entitled “International Fun and Team Athletics” in Canada.

Arye Rosenoer

Title: Assistant Coach - (Pole Vault)

Arye Rosenoer is the pole vault coach at York and has overseen the development of several top pole vaulters, including former Lion, Heather Hamilton, a two-time CIS and OUA champion in the event who currently also holds the CIS and OUA meet records and the school record.

Before coming to York, he spent six seasons at the University of Toronto.

In addition to his work with Hamilton, Rosenoer works with some of this country’s elite pole vaulters, such as Jason Wurster and Dana Ellis, and has guided many of his athletes at international competitions around the world.

Anthony D'Agostino

Anthony D'Agostino

Title: Assitant Coach - (Sprints)

Anthony D’Agostino joined the Lions coaching staff in 2011 to assist with one of the team’s strongest groups, its sprinters.

He is currently the track and field coach at Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School in Toronto, a role he has held since 1986, and he is also the head of the physical education department, which he took over in 2003. The school’s track and field program has won numerous medals at the TDCAA and OFSAA championships in the last 10 years, most recently the girl’s team title in 2008.

In addition to coaching track and field, he is the sport’s convenor for the TDCAA and OFSAA championships and has also been a junior girls hockey coach at a number of different levels.

A multi-sport athlete himself who played for the University of Toronto football team and then in the Canadian Italian Hockey League, D’Agostino is a certified NCCP Level II coach and an NCCP instructor for Level I coaching.
