Ross MacDonald has been the head coach of the York Lions water polo programs for 21 seasons.

In 2009, he led the men’s team back to the OUA championship tournament for the second consecutive season. The previous year, both the men’s and women’s teams finished third at their respective OUA championships and the bronze medals were the first of any colour for the York water polo program in three years.

MacDonald brings valuable international experience to the table. He has been on coaching staffs for the Canadian national men’s junior team, the national men’s youth team and the national women’s junior team, winning a gold medal with the latter squad at the world championships in Calgary in 2003 as an assistant coach.

A former student-athlete on the York men’s water polo team, MacDonald has won four women’s provincial titles and three men’s crowns during his tenure at the University. The Toronto native picked up his first coach of the year honour in 2006-07 with the women’s team.

MacDonald also coaches the York Mavericks club team and works as the technical director for Water Polo Ontario.
